Mutianyu Great Wall
We would like to recommend Mutianyu as it takes less time on the road without any pick up points inside town and it goes straight to the wall. When you are back to the city you will find yourself still in the middle of afternoon and a whole evening ahead. The scenery of Mutiayu is so amazing with the wall up and down on the mountains full of trees and plants and the wall in this section is also best preserved. It is the most beautiful part of the wall in Beijing. What is more, the local government clearly keep the tourist market outside the entrance so there will be nobody trying to sell you anything while you are enjoying. You pay only once the entrance fee.
Hiking on the wall from Jinshanling to Simatai
You could walk 10 km on the wall from Jinshanling to Simatai. it is one of most adventurous sections of the Great Wall In Beijing. The highlight of this trip is that you could walk on the wall which was built on the top of high mountains and it gets more and more narrow to the peak of the mountain evantually inaccessible for normal climbers. The only compay operating this tour has to collect people from many hostels so plus the time for collecting people it takes almost 6 hours to get there and 4 hours on the wall then another 6 hours back to town. It is worth while to do so if you like hiking on the mountain and climbing. However, the wall there is not as beautiful as that of Mutianyu. 10 years ago there were not so many tourists but now more and more tourists there and a lot of commercial structures built greatly compromise the attractiveness of Simatai Great Wall..
